Happy New Year Community Friends:
On behalf of Family Resources and Community Connections Incorporated, a non-profit and public charity serving as an Affiliate of the National Alliance of Faith and Justice, I am honored to invite you to join us as we celebrate the Legacy of one of the greatest, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program is entitled, “Justice Sunday” which is celebrated the day and sometimes the entire weekend prior to Dr. King’s Birthday.
Justice Sunday, is a part of FRCC’s National Mentoring and signature youth development program, Pen or Pencil. Pen represents No to the Penal system and Yes to Education. A great deal focuses on academics.
The goal is to decrease unhealthy and negative behaviors such as verbal conflict, hitting, pushing, fighting, bullying, gang behavior, class disruptions, suspensions and much more. We mentor our children through historic icons such as Dr. King, Dred Scott, Mary McLeod Bethune, Kemba Smith, the Civil Rights Movement, Underground Railroad, Bus Boycott, Little Rock Nine and other history including national parks and their history. Our most used curriculums from the period of January through April are “Take A Stand to Keep A Seat In School” and “Let Me Read You Your Rights because of Dr. Kings birth and death.
The words “justice and Sunday” are symbols of faith, fairness and freedom, all of which were core values of selfless service rendered by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and countless others who committed their time, talents and lives to a movement of change. This is the goal of FRCC Incorporated. We stand firm and supportive of our national organization, NAFJ as we are committed to serving this present age. I am hopeful that you and members of your organizations will join us on Justice Sunday.
